West Hempstead woman crashes into Inwood restaurant

A West Hempstead woman was arrested for driving while intoxicated in Inwood on July 5 at 6:23 a.m., police said.

Shannon Johnson, 24, of Melvin Avenue, was driving north east on Sheridan Boulevard in a 2017 Ford Fiesta, when she passed a red traffic signal, collided into a 2001 Lincoln Navigator, which was travelling east on Bayview Avenue, and then into the front steps of the Las Gemelas 1 restaurant at 112 Sheridan Blvd., according to police.

After an investigation it was determined that Johnson was driving while intoxicated. She and the 18- year-old man who was driving the Navigator were taken to a local hospital and treated for what police said were minor injuries. There were no reported injuries inside the restaurant. Johnson was charged with driving while intoxicated.
