The Nassau County Fifth Squad reported the arrest of an Elmont woman on April 14 for multiple cases of menacing that occurred throughout Elmont.

Detectives said that on March 30, at 10:30 a.m., Kari Fletcher had been speeding on Elmont Road in a black BMW, weaving through traffic until she caught up to a car at the intersection of Elmont Road and Linden Boulevard. Fletcher was then seen parking her car in front of the victim’s vehicle, allegedly to stop the victim from driving away. Fletcher then exited her car and waved a hammer at the victim, who was driving with her eight-year-old daughter in the back seat. After threatening the victim, Fletcher fled the scene.

Fletcher was then spotted doing the same thing on April 10, at the Checkers on Hempstead Turnpike. Detectives said Fletcher had become irritated while waiting in the drive through and brandished her hammer at a victim. When Fletcher exited the car, the victim and other nearby witnesses locked themselves inside the Checkers for safety. Again, Fletcher fled the scene before officers could arrive.

No injuries were reported in either case. A following investigation led to Fletcher’s arrest on April 14, at 11:30 p.m. She was charged with two counts of menacing and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon. Fletcher was arraigned at the First District Court in Hempstead on April 15.
