Crime watch: Franklin Square, Elmont

F.S. man arrested for local burglary
A Franklin Square man was arrested for burglary on Feb. 29 at 6:53 a.m. in Franklin Square, according to the 5th Precinct.

According to detectives, police officers from the 5th Precinct responded to a burglary call at Sleepy’s, located at 1080 Hempstead Turnpike, and when officers arrived, they were informed by a witness that a man had entered the rear of the store.

Police said that Vincent Piccinonno, 55, was found inside of the business, and was placed under arrest without incident. Piccinonno was charged with third-degree burglary, and was arraigned on March 1 at the First District Court in Hempstead.

Cops: 2 men rob student in Elmont
A 14-year-old man was robbed by two men while he was walking home from school, on Second Street in Elmont, on March 1 at 4:20 p.m., according to the 5th Precinct.

According to detectives, the victim was approached by the men and placed in a choke hold, and told by the men to, “Give us everything you got.” The victim then handed them his Droid cell phone, and the subjects fled southbound on Second Street, police said. No injuries were reported.
The subjects have been described as: a black man, 15-18 years old, 5’6” tall and 150 pounds, wearing a black hoodie, black pants, blue Nike sneakers and glasses; and a black man, 15-18 years old, 5’2” tall and 130 pounds, wearing a black hoodie, black pants and a red backpack.
 

Cops: Petro Gas robbed at gunpoint
A Petro Gas Station on Hempstead Turnpike in Elmont was robbed at gunpoint on Feb. 26, according to Nassau County police.

According to detectives, a black man wearing gloves and a doo-rag over his face entered gas station around 5 a.m. on Sunday, and displayed a black and silver handgun to the store clerk, demanding money.

Police said that after the employee complied and gave the gunman an unknown amount of cash, the suspect took 10 packs of cigarettes, a cell phone and a cordless phone that belonged to the gas station, and fled the scene in a late model brown Ford Explorer driven by a second black man.
According to police, no injuries relating to the robbery were reported.
