A man from Baldwin faces misdemeanor charges of assaulting a New York City police officer after Jan. 3 fight, city police said.

A police department spokeswoman said five men were arrested in a fight at the Brass Monkey, Little W. 12th St., in the Meatpacking District of Manhattan at 1:42 a.m.

The spokeswoman said an off-duty officer noticed the men fighting and tried to intervene. The fight turned on the officer, she said, who was injured. He was taken to Lenox Hill Hospital with a fractured jaw.

Although all five men were initially arrested on gang assault charges, only two were charged by the Manhattan district attorney’s office: Thomas Gagliardi, 23, of Baldwin, and Matthew Tacktill, 23, of Northport. Bond was set at $2,500 for both men. Of the other men, one was from Franklin Square and two were from Lynbrook.
