Carey High School’s French connection

Posted

H. Frank Carey High School students recently enjoyed a visit from their French pen pals from Lycée Jean Caillaud, located in Ruelle-sur-Touvre, France.

The visit was organized by French teacher Ellen Seidner and coordinated with the historic sail of the Hermione, a replica of General Lafayette’s 18th-century ship, which set sail from Port des Barques, France in April for the United States. Seidner’s French 3A classes have been writing to the students of the secondary school, which is located where the Hermione was reconstructed, since last spring.

During their stay, the French students were housed with Carey students and visited New York City. Both groups of students also traveled to Mount Vernon on June 9 for a viewing of the Hermione, which included boarding the ship and meeting the sailors who took part in the voyage.
