Celebrating the Feast of St. Paolino

Posted

The Giglio Feast of San Paolino at St. Catherine of Sienna in Franklin Square last week and weekend was a big hit, as always. Although there were some fewer visitors than in past years because of the rain, it didn’t dampen the spirits of the people who attended.  Nearly 150 volunteers checked in over the five days

For the first time, a true Italian Giglio structure was created for the feast. The idea started with John Spampanato and Peter Buonaiuto and grew from there into a structure that towered over the carnival rides at the feast.

Jimmy Alleva, the MC riding atop the giglio is also a gifted tenor and serenaded the crowd throughout the day on the 10th anniversary of the feast.

The feast offered live entertainment every night, and a dance fest on Thursday. Attendees enjoyed plenty of food choices and kids were able to enjoy a variety of rides and games at the feast. And even a sheep came for a visit!

The celebration of San Paolino and the Dancing of the Giglio is a time-honored tradition.
