Driving in the Safe Lane at Carey

Posted

The H. Frank Carey High School pupil personnel services department presented a Driving in the Safe Lane hands-on activity center, in conjunction with the Community Parent Center for students in grades 10-12.

As part of the center, students were able to do hands-on everyday activities like playing board games and video games with vision impairment glasses. They also took a mock field sobriety test using the glasses. The purpose was to show students how much these simple activities are impacted when one is impaired.

According to Wendy Tepfel, executive director of the Community Parent Center, the activities raised awareness about driving while impaired or distracted. Students taking part in the experiment were also given the opportunity to sign a banner indicating their commitment to safe driving.
