Election for new Sanitary District 6 commissioner is next month

The vote to elect a new commissioner to Sanitary District 6 is coming up August 14, but those interested in running for the position have until 3 p.m. on August 4 to gather the required 25 signatures and submit their petition.

The current commissioner, Gaetano Mauro, is running again, and has held the position for approximately five years, according to Frank Sparacio, secretary to the district's board.

Voting for the commissioner position will take place at the following locations from 6 p.m. through 10 p.m. on August 14:

•Chestnut Street school in West Hempstead

•Covert Ave. School in Elmont

•James A. Dever School in Valley Stream

•Washington Street School in Franklin Square

The commissioner position is a part time job, and requires all applicants to be a resident of Sanitary District 6, a registered voter, a U.S. citizen, a registered voter with the Nassau County Board of Elections, and at least 18 years of age. The applicant must have lived in his or her residence for the past 30 days.

Petitions should be sent to the attention of Frank Sparacio, Secretary to the Board, Sanitary District 6, 80 Cherry Valley Avenue, West Hempstead, NY 11552. All petitions must be received on or before 3 p.m. on Tuesday, August 4.
