F.S. bank robbed by masked man

A Chase bank in Franklin Square was robbed by a masked man on July 9 — the third robbery of a Chase branch in the area in the past three months, Nassau County police said.

According to detectives, a man entered the bank, at 925 Hempstead Turnpike, at 3:15 p.m. and presented a demand note to a teller. The teller gave him an undetermined amount of cash, police said, and he was last seen fleeing southwest, through a rear parking lot, toward Sobo Avenue. There were seven employees and two customers in the bank at the time of the incident.

Police described the robber as a black man, 6 feet tall, in his mid-30s, weighing approximately 200 pounds and of medium build. He was wearing a white baseball cap, a white shirt, blue and white plaid pajama pants, black Converse All Star sneakers and black wrap-around sunglasses.

In both May and June, the Chase branch at 565 Hempstead Turnpike in West Hempstead — on the hamlet’s border with Franklin Square — was robbed, and a demand note was used in both cases. On May 5, police said, a black man wearing a Rastafarian-style hat, wig and glasses gave a demand note to a teller. He was described as between 5 feet 10 and 6 feet tall, and of medium to stocky build.

On June 25, the bank was robbed again, in the same manner, according to police. A black man described as in his 30s, about 5 feet 10 and wearing a baseball cap with “NY” on it gave a demand note to a teller. The robber made off with undetermined amounts of cash in each of those incidents, police said.

Anyone with information regarding any of these crimes is urged to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at (800) 244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
