F.S. residents attend ‘think tank’

Posted

From Aug. 6 to Aug. 8 Franklin Square residents Ana Diaz and Rony Kessler attended the 10th Annual Bladder Cancer Think Tank in Charlotte, North Carolina, as patient advocates. The event, hosted by BCAN’s (Bladder Cancer Awareness Network), included 200 leading clinicians, researchers, industry representatives and fellow patient advocates.

The Think Tank focused on creating collaborative opportunities to improve the quality of life for those impacted by the disease and to ultimately find a cure.

Bladder cancer is the fourth most common cancer among men and 6th most common among women. There are approximately 75,000 new BC cases each year with an estimate of over 15,000 deaths. In 2014, New York ranked third in new BC cases. It is one of the most expensive cancers to treat and yet receives insufficient research dollars and insufficient public awareness about the risk factors and symptoms.
