County Executive Ed Managno tried to get this fixed through the lawsuit but did not win. We need our legislators to grow some backbone and work in Albany to get this fixed. Until that happens, it makes sense for the county to settle the grievances expeditiously. This timely settlement policy is just one example of Mangano’s common-sense approach to the county’s problems.
The fundamental problem in Nassau County is that taxes are too high. Mangano and the Republican majority Legislature have frozen property tax rates to address the problem and eliminated the Suozzi-enacted fuel tax, which has already saved Nassau homeowners over $100 million. If other jurisdictions, especially the schools, would freeze property taxes, we would be well on our way to a more prosperous county.
