Posted

The MTA announced on Wednesday service changes for Memorial Day Weekend, including changes on the Long Island Rail Road and the agency’s bridges and tunnels, designed to help travelers better deal with traffic and crowds during the holiday weekend.

The Long Island Railroad will provide ten early-afternoon trains outbound from Penn Station on Friday, May 22, to accommodate riders planning an early start to their weekend. The trains will operate on a regular weekend schedule on Saturday and Sunday, May 22 and 23, and a holiday schedule on Memorial Day, May 24.

The agency also announced it would suspend all scheduled bridge and tunnel maintenance work beginning at 1 p.m. on Friday, through the end of the morning rush on Tuesday, May 26, to ease the flow of traffic on roadways.

Extra trains will also run on the Metro-North, Staten Island, and New York City Subway rail lines. On Friday, the Metro-North will offer 17 extra trains departing from Grand Central Station between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., and on Memorial Day, trains will follow a Sunday schedule. The Staten Island Railway will operate on an Early Departure Get Away schedule, which includes extra trains beginning at 2:30 p.m. The subway will operate on a Sunday schedule on Memorial day.
