Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano joined the many well-wishers gathered in congratulating his wife Linda Mangano and Retired Major Chuck Kilbride as they were honored at the Annual Anna’s House Spring Fling Hat Luncheon and Fashion Show.

For years, Major Chuck Kilbride has served as the Chairman of Nassau County’s Toys for Tots campaign. In this role, he works hard to ensure that Nassau’s neediest children have presents to open during the holidays.

“My wife, Linda, is the most caring person I know. She is constantly working to enhance the lives of every Nassau resident but she has a special place in her heart for children. Her love for children is what drives her to work tirelessly, with the Games for the Physically Challenged Committee, to make the Games a success each and every year,” said County Executive Mangano.

The annual event raises funds for Anna’s House, located within Belmont Race Track.  Belmont has become the first racetrack to have an onsite child care center. That was a miracle created by the donors who understood the need for childcare for the backstretch families. Anna House provides and gives a quality day care service for parents while they work. In addition Anna’s House prepares children by giving them a head start to be ready for school.

Last year, backstretch families included 250 children below the age of 12, and almost half of them are pre-school age. Anna’s House currently serves fifty-two children. They enter the program speaking primarily Spanish, and as a result of their Anna’s House education, they speak fluent English when they graduate.
