Scouts pack the house for Pinewood Derbies
Susan Grieco/Herald
Jaime Christopher is happy that his car just won.

It’s racing season again. Local Cub Scouts have been taking part in the Pinewood Derby races, an annual scouting tradtion.

Pack 106, based in North Valley Stream, held its Pinewood Derby the evening of Jan. 25 at New Hope Lutheran Church. Cub Scouts from Pack 367 were off to the races at Holy Name of Mary Church on Jan. 27. This past Saturday, Pack 109 held its derby at Grace United Methodist Church.

Each boy was given a kit, which includes a block of wood and four wheels, then could shape and design their car to their liking, following the official Pinewood Derby rules. At each event, the scouts cheered enthusiastically as they watched their cars head down the track.
