Budget highlights: The proposed spending plan maintains all programs and class sizes in the district. It would also fund electrical upgrades at the William L. Buck School and the repair of some sidewalks around the Brooklyn Avenue School. A part-time reading teacher and five aids would be cut.

Revenue: The district is expected to receive about $5.3 million in state aid next year, an increase of about 4 percent. About $2 million will be spent from district reserves, including $1 million from a retirement reserve account.

Contingency budget: If the budget were to fail twice, the district would have to cut $314,239 from its proposed spending plan. Possible programs cuts could include outdoor education, summer school or staff positions. No new equipment would be purchased. All decisions would be made by the school board.

Board of Education: There are three seats up for election this year. Incumbents Paul DePace and Lisa Pellicane are seeking re-election. Armando Hernandez is running for the seat being vacated by Carole Meaney. All terms are for three years.
