Raid New York
Besides the spectacle at Jones Beach, there is also plenty of action during the holiday weekend at Eisenhower Park. The park’s Kite Field once again serves as a landing area for a U.S. Navy “Leap Frogs” parachute team and Marine Corps helicopter squadron, on Saturday, as part of the region’s Fleet Week 2017 activities. It begins at 10 a.m. when the San Diego, Calif.-based Leap Frogs, parachute into the park showcasing the skills of the U.S. Navy Parachute Team. Then a combined team of members from the U.S. Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal team and Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron present a mine countermeasures demonstration. U.S. Marines CH-53 Sea Stallion, MV2 Osprey and AH-1W Cobra helicopters follow, at 12:30 p.m., with an area sweep and transport of a Marine raid force to the landing zone. After an assault demonstration, spectators are invited to meet with military personnel.
Saturday, May 27, 10 a.m. Kite Field, Eisenhower Park, East Meadow. (516) 572-0200.
