Franklin Square man arrested in connection with Subway robberies

A Franklin Square man was arrested in connection with two robberies at a Franklin Square Subway shop, Nassau County police report.

According to detectives, Jerry Torres, 55, allegedly entered the Subway sandwich shop on Franklin Avenue twice last month and robbed the store. On Sept. 23, police said, he pointed a small handgun at a female customer and pushed her behind the counter. He then demanded that a male employee open the register, and stole an undisclosed amount of money before fleeing northbound on foot. No injuries were reported. Police later reported that the same suspect was responsible for another robbery at the Subway on Sept. 15.

Torres is charged with two counts of Robbery in the first-degree, two counts of criminal possession of a weapon and resisting arrest. He was scheduled to be arraigned on Oct. 4 at the First District Court in Hempstead.
