Music from the Slavic group Barynya enticed a crowd at Holy Trinity Orthodox Church’s annual family festival earlier this month.
A dancing gypsy and bear joined Barynya—the word itself means Russian dance, music and song ensemble—as crowd members took pictures and danced along. The church introduced the East Meadow community to a traditional Slavic and Greek festival, complete with food, games for children, prizes and a flea market.
The Holy Trinity Orthodox Church’s annual festival draws dozens of families from across East Meadow and Salisbury each year. It offers a taste of different cultures through food and music.
