Dean Blumenthal, a resident of Lawrence and chief operating officer of family-owned Lion Brand Yarns (since 1878), will be honored by the Israel Cancer Research Fund, along with actor Michael Douglas and Dr. Morton Coleman, clinical professor of medicine at the Weill Medical College and the director of the Center for Lymphoma and Myeloma at the New York-Presbyterian Hospital at the Tower of Hope gala in the Ziegfeld Ballroom in Manhattan on Nov. 28.

Blumenthal’s father and mother were founding ICRF members. Dean said that accepting this honor is his way of preserving his father’s legacy, while helping to find treatments and cures for cancer. He is the recipient of the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award for New Jersey, and a board member of the Center for Retailing Excellence at the Sam M. Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas.
