Broken rails forces LIRR delays

As of 11:30 a.m., normal service has been restored on the Oyster Bay branch. 20- to 30-minute delays persist on the Babylon, Montauk, Port Jefferson, Port Washington and Ronkonkoma branches.

***UPDATE 10:30 a.m.***

As of 10:30 a.m. Friday, normal service has been restored on the Far Rockaway, Hempstead, Long Beach and West Hempstead branches. The Babylon, Montauk, Oyster Bay, Port Jefferson, Port Washington and Ronkonkoma branches are still experiencing a 20 -to30-minute delay.

The MTA announced Friday morning that all LIRR lines were experiencing 20- to 30-minute delays due to a broken rail in Babylon and a broken third rail in Bay Shore. Also, the Port Washington Branch had only hourly service due to a broken rail west of Great Neck Station. All westbound Port Jefferson, Ronkonkoma and Babylon trains are making all local stops to Jamaica.
