Freeport man arrested for assault

Major Case Bureau detectives report the arrest of a Freeport man for an assault that occurred on Friday, July 10 at 3:31 p.m. in Freeport.

According to detectives, while sitting in front of his home on North Long Beach Avenue with a friend, the 23-year-old male victim was approached by Jose Rodriguez, 26, of 9 S. Bay Ave., a person with whom he has had an ongoing disagreement with.

Rodriguez, who was reportedly concealing a box cutter in his hand, put it up to the victim’s face and slashed him from his cheek to his chin causing a deep laceration. Rodriguez then fled the scene on foot.

The victim was transported to an area hospital where he received 60 stitches from a plastic surgeon to treat his wound.

After being contacted by investigating detectives, Rodriguez, on Tuesday, July 28, turned himself into the 1st Precinct where he was placed under arrest.

The defendant is charged with two counts of first-degree assault and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
