Gunshots hit Freeport deli

Nassau County police detectives reported Friday morning, May 9, the arrest of a Freeport man for an incident that occurred on April 11 at 6:30 p.m. in Freeport.

According to detectives, Nathanial Paulino, 18, of S. Ocean Avenue, became involved in a verbal argument with a large group of unknown males while in front of 292 N. Main Street. After the argument escalated, Paulino produced a handgun and began firing multiple gunshots at the group, police said.

Before the police arrived, Paulino and the group of males fled the scene. It was discovered that two gunshots struck a local delicatessen. No injuries have been reported.

A subsequent investigation led detectives to the defendant who surrendered himself at the First Precinct. Paulino is charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree, Reckless Endangerment 1st Degree and Criminal Mischief 4th Degree.
