Mother, daughter charged with heroin sale

Nassau County police have arrested a mother-daughter duo from North Merrick and charged them with the sale and possession of heroin in Freeport on May 25 at 9 p.m.

According to detectives, Denise Burke, 51, working with her 18-year-old daughter Danielle, sold heroin to an unidentified person on Merrick Road. The Burkes live on Whittier Avenue.

Nassau County officials worked with Freeport police to make the arrest as part of the Long Island Heroin Initiative.

Denise Burke was charged with third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, and petit larceny stemming from a separate incident.

Danielle Burke was charged with four counts of third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, four counts of fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, and third-degree petit larceny and unauthorized use of a vehicle stemming from a separate incident.

Both defendants were scheduled to be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Tuesday afternoon, as the Herald Life was going to press. Danielle pleaded not guilty, according to an official. She was represented by the Legal Aid Society, which does not comment on cases. There was no word on Denise’s plea.
