Open only a month, Taka Asian Fusion already has it all in place from stunning décor to impressive cuisine. It’s evident that Amy Lin, the owner, is no novice to the restaurant business. New Garden, an Asian restaurant that has graced Port Washington for 18 years, is hers as well.

Taka took over the space that once housed Jade Dynasty. Totally renovated, the space is now contemporary with exquisite design. Carved wood fixtures hang from above, while lovely backlit images of Asian ladies enhance the walls. A lively cocktail bar sits beside a fully stocked sushi bar. The number of accommodating staff members is beyond adequate. Sushi and kitchen chefs are extremely talented here, showcased in the quality, flavors and presentations of the fare.

In addition to dinner specials, each night offers a treat. Monday is half-priced sake. Tuesday gets you free ice cream for ordering $30 or more. Wednesday features a psychic, and Thursday, Ladies’ Night, means half-priced drinks. On Friday and Saturday, any table spending $50 gets free sake, and Sunday, Karaoke Night, includes beer at half-price.

Typically Asian Fusion, the menu has a wide array of Japanese and Chinese selections, and several Malaysian and Thai dishes. Soups, salads and appetizers are $3 to $12. A la carte sushi and special rolls are $2 to $16. Sushi entrees, Bento Boxes, and Japanese kitchen entrees are $13 to $24. Asian dinners, which include rice and soup or salad, are $12 to $22. The many lunch and “lunch box” specials are $8 to $13. Desserts are $6 to $10.

Exotic cocktails abound, the bartender recommended his version of Fresh Martini — Stoli Vanilla Vodka, Chambourd Black Raspberry Liqueur and pineapple juice — a great summery choice. My partner enjoyed a frosty mug of Sapporo Japanese beer.
