James A. Dever students get STEAM-y

Fifth- and sixth-graders at the James A. Dever School put their science, technology, engineering, art and math skills to use at the STEAM Night on April 11.

“Everyone was very excited,” said Christy Taveira, a speech-language pathologist at the school who helped organize the event.

The nearly 45 students and parents who went to the school that night worked together to solve problems from ancient civilizations, engineer cars and program computers. “It’s interesting to see how much interpersonal skills were used when trying to do science and art,” Taverira said.

She organized the night with the help of an art teacher, a librarian and the Gifted and Talented teacher.
