Prom dress giveaway inspired by alumni

Posted

Local business owner Tanyria Taylor teamed up with Freeporter Jeremy Impellizeri to host Boss Babies’ first annual Prom Dress giveaway on April 27. The event was held at the Boss Babies Learning Academy on Atlantic Avenue in Freeport.

Reminiscing of her senior year at Freeport High School, Taylor said she too had a prom gown donated. After having a night she still remembers nine years later, Taylor said by hosting the giveaway is a way to giveback.

“I’ve never had the opportunity to give back,” Taylor said. “Now that I have my business in my own town it’s the perfect opportunity now to give back when I financially can and have the support of other people.”

The event is similar to the Nassau County Police Department’s A Dream Prom Boutique held at Freeport High School in March. And for Impellizeri and Taylor, both Freeport High School alumni, the dress giveaway is just second opportunity for girls who may not have been able to make the March giveaways to still get a dress.

“Prom can get really expensive,” Impellizeri said. “This giveaway can help cut down those expenses.”

Boss Babies’ play area was converted into a one-stop boutique, with rolling clothing racks of dresses and a table of shoes. According to Taylor, she received over 100 donations from Freeporters and friends. Towards mid-May, Impellizeri and Taylor have plans to partner with the PTA to giveaway more dresses, shoes and accessories in case other girls didn’t get to attend Saturday’s event.
