A 17-year-old construction worker who suffered a skull fracture while on the job on South Bayview Avenue in Freeport on July 1 died from his injuries the next day.

Alberto Mejia-Montoya and an unidentified man fell 25 feet after a makeshift scaffold broke at a construction site on South Bayview Avenue in Freeport on July 1 at 1:45 p.m. The second man, 30, suffered an injury to his shoulder. Both men were rushed to a nearby hospital. The police department at the time of press provided no update on the second man’s condition or identity.

According to officials, the men were working for ASMJ Construction, a company from Hicksville. Though the company had construction permits issued by the village to build the house, it did not have scaffolding permits on file, officials said. According to neighbors, the original house on South Bayview Avenue was demolished after Hurricane Sandy, and the current construction project is a new house built from the ground up.
