Drinking coffee with drag queens at Sip This

A handful of drag queens brought the glamour to Valley Stream on July 13, performing at Sip This on Rockaway Avenue for the second time ever.

There, they sang songs, talked about their ensembles and acted out skits for the more than 30 Valley Streamers in the audience. Bella Noche, for example, sang “Let it Go” from Disney’s “Frozen,” and Toni Homeperm joked with the audience about the feathery outfit she was wearing, saying “Oh this? Just a little something I wear when I’m running to Walmart.”

The drag show is hosted by a Sip This customer, Anthony Bellafiore, who performs as Ashley Jade. A few months ago, he asked co-owner Stephanie Pontillo about holding a drag show at the coffee shop, and Pontillo agreed.

“I personally didn’t know of any places on Long Island to see a drag show,” she said, “and since Sip This is a unique, welcoming space, it just made sense.”

At the first drag show last month, Pontillo said, the “store was completely full,” and added that she plans to have more drag shows at the coffee shop in the future.

“We can’t wait to have them back,” she said.
