One Seaford resident is getting ready to put on his boxing gloves and square up for a good cause.

Kyle Burkhardt, senior director at Cushman & Wakefield, a real estate brokerage in Melville, has been selected to box at the 14th annual Long Island Fight for Charity on Nov. 20. It is the only all-volunteer charity-boxing event in the United States, organizers said.

The Main Event, which will be held in November at the Long Island Hilton, is expected to attract more than 1,200 people. According to a Fight for Charity news release, organizers and supporters expect to raise more than $200,000 for local nonprofit organizations.

Burkhardt chose his own ring name: The Real Deal. He is one of many Long Island business professionals who will compete in the ting. The card for the Main Event will include up to 10 bouts.

After he spoke with Jeff Cohen — one of the founders of Fight for Charity — at a business-networking event, Burkhardt said that he became interested in the cause. “I decided to volunteer to help less fortunate families on Long Island,” he said. This will be an opportunity to give back to the community and get back into shape while doing so.”

The mission of the Long Island Fight for Charity group is to raise money for several local charities. The organization has donated to the Long Island Community Chest, the Genesis School and the National Foundation for Human Potential, among other nonprofits.

“The committee members are impressed with the charity boxers and how dedicated they are to their individual training programs in prep for November,” said Jamie Austin, the Long Island Fight for Charity co-founder. “Kyle has the stamina and motivation required to be an outstanding boxer. He is a role model for others as well.”

Tickets for the Main Event are available online. VIP Tickets and reserved seating cost $250. General tickets cost $135.

More than 20 local restaurants will provide food and beverages for the event, organizers noted.
