The Rockville Links Country Club will be hosting the 30th Annual Mayor’s Golf Classic on Sept. 25. For its 30th anniversary, the event will be honoring former Deputy Mayor Nancy Howard.

“It is my great pleasure and privilege to honor such an integral part of our community,” Mayor Francis X. Murray said. “Nancy’s unwavering support has made our village a better place to live, work and play.”

Howard became the village’s deputy mayor in 2011, and resigned in May to join her husband, David, who pursued a job opportunity in Florida. The couple called Rockville Centre home for 24 years. During her tenure, Howard served as liaison to the Rockville Centre Fire Department, Sandel Senior Center, Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center, and the John A. Anderson Recreation Center.

She was instrumental in the downtown renaissance, field restorations, road programs, vehicle purchases, electric and water improvements, as well as the refurbishing of Eugene J. Murray Village Hall. She has spent countless hours volunteering her time with the Rockville Centre PTA, the Rockville Centre Education Foundation, the village’s Mercy League, Rockville Centre Guild for the Arts and the Rockville Centre Community Fund.

The Golf Classic, and accompanying dinner, is the primary fundraiser for the Community Fund, which is dedicated exclusively to helping members of the Rockville Centre community, and has raised more than $1.6 million in emergency assistance since 1987.

Tickets and sponsorships for the all-day event, as well as journal ads are still available. The donation for breakfast, lunch, cocktails and dinner, as well as a round of golf at the Rockville Links Country Club, is $350. Dinner-only tickets are $125.
