A day of cabaret at the library

Posted

Scores of East Meadowites and residents from the surrounding communities nestled into the East Meadow Public Library’s theatre room for a special “Cabaret and Dessert” program on Feb. 3.

Actress and singer Annie Kozuch presented a special cabaret performance alongside musicians Tom Hubbard, on the bass, and Frank Ponzio, on the piano. Kozuch, who the New York Times said she “…acts with telling subtlety,” enchanted the crowd through her music.

According to her website, www.AnnieKozuch.com, Kozuch studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and spent a summer at the American Conservatory Theatre. Although she was born in New Jersey, Kozuch grew up in Mexico City, allowing her to become bilingual. She has toured the country with the Nolan Gasser Quartet and has performed in several Broadway productions, including “The Girl Who Said Yes” and “Dear Edwina.”

Kozuch, with the encouragement of her longtime pianist Ponzio, now incorporates both English and Spanish into her performances. She created her first one-woman show, “Diva’s Lament,” which details her personal story through several genres, including the Great American Songbook, jazz, and Mexican boleros.
