Preway Service Inc, a factory authorized appliance repair facility, has long been repairing appliances in apartment buildings and for landlords. Now they are available to do repairs for individuals as well.

The company was founded by Sy Entin in 1963. It started out as a two-man operation in Franklin Square. Entin handled the business end of it, sending out one repairman, serving just the local area. Over the years it expanded, and 48 years ago they moved to their present location in Lynbrook. Now, with about 20 technicians, Preway is available to the entire Metropolitan area. These days, a business that thrives after five decades is a rare find. The company must be doing something right, if not extraordinary.

“You will be dealing with real local people when you call us, not an automated machine,” said Entin. “Our repairmen live on Long Island. We are a homegrown and independent business.” Cost is based on the individual job. When a repairman is sent out, he assesses the issue, gives an estimate for a flat rate, and if agreeable, completes the repair. Preway Service offers next day appointments, and all work is guaranteed for 90 days.

Repairs can be done on stoves, refrigerators, washers, dryers, dishwashers, window or wall air conditioners, ice makers, microwaves, and wine coolers. They specialize in top brands like Sub-Zero, Bosch, Kitchen Aid and Whirlpool. They can also be called upon to install, service and repair new appliances. Dryer duct cleaning is something else another they offer. Recommended is twice a year duct cleaning to prevent a fire caused by lint.

Over the years, Entin has been continuously active in community and civic events. He has been a trustee, involved with the Lynbrook of Commerce, and an honorary trustee at Temple B’nai Shalom in Rockville Centre. Since Superstorm Sandy, he has been offering assistance wherever he can.

“When people affected by Sandy call us to repair damaged appliances, it is our contribution and obligation to do the very best for them. We will advise people on when it is better to replace the item rather than repair it. If we think it should be replaced, we will encourage them and help them to do so.”

Appointments for repairs and/or estimates can be made by calling Preway Service Inc. between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
