Art honor students donate works to library

Cassie Ross, and art teacher at West Hempstead High School, contacted the Island Park Library back in 2013 saying that her Art Honor Society students were interested in doing a special project for the Library. The students created adorable marine-themed tiles which were then set in concrete, framed, and hung in the Library’s Children’s Room.

“We were really touched that the students wanted to contribute a permanent art installation to our Library,” said Library Director Jessica Koenig, “After Cassie brought us the tiles, Children’s Librarian Meghan Ceglie and I designed the layout of the tiles. We then gave those plans and the tiles to Greg Kropp of the A. R. Kropp company. He set the tiles in the concrete according to our instructions and mounted the finished product on the wall. It came out just as we had envisioned it and it is a beautiful, cheerful piece.”
