Charity is nothing new to Oceansiders. Normally, the Oceanside Interfaith Council hosts a free Thanksgiving dinner for residents at St. Anthony’s church. But with the increase in need this year due to Hurricane Sandy, a larger venue was needed.
The Oceanside School District rose to the occasion, opening the doors of the high school to allow hundreds of people to come and enjoy a free Thanksgiving meal sponsored by Oceanside Community Service, which collected and cooked all of the food.
Residents who were in need were also able to take food that was donated during the OHS Turkey Shoot last week. It was the largest Thanksgiving dinner in the community during one of the most difficult times ever.
