More than 100 battle I.P. house fire

It took personnel and equipment from nine fire departments to contain an early-morning house fire in Island Park on Dec. 3.

According to Island Park Fire Chief Anthony D’Esposito, efforts to extinguish the blaze, at the corner of New York and Seaview avenues, were hampered by a strong south wind. “When we arrived we found a two-story private dwelling with heavy fire in the rear,” D’Esposito reported. “It took 100 firefighters and 10 pieces of equipment to knock down the blaze.”

The house, damaged by Hurricane Sandy, had recently been renovated, D’Esposito said.

Crews from Baldwin, East Rockaway, Freeport, Long Beach, Lynbrook, Oceanside, Point Lookout and Rockville Centre aided the Island Park department in the effort. No injuries were reported, but the Nassau County fire marshal’s office continued its investigation as the Herald went to press.
