Nassau County police are investigating a violent armed robbery that happened in Island Park on Wednesday night, after two men entered a home on Industrial Place, terrorized two victims and shot the resident before making off with cash and jewelry.

Police said the incident occurred on Wednesday, Feb. 5, at 10:15 p.m. when a 52-year-old man and a 46-year-old woman — both inside the man’s home on Industrial Place — were approached by two men armed with handguns. Police said the suspects, both wearing black ski masks, bound the man and woman with cable ties, and demanded money and jewelry.

Police said that during the ordeal, one of the suspects discharged his weapon and struck the man in the leg, causing a laceration. Both suspects fled in the victim’s vehicle with an undisclosed amount of cash and jewelry. Police said they found the vehicle nearby on Broadway, and that the men were last seen running from the scene north on Audubon Boulevard.

Police said the man was treated at the scene, and that the woman had no reported injuries. The suspects are believed to be 20 to 30 years of age, with medium builds. Both were also wearing blue jeans and dark jackets, police said.

Detectives ask anyone with information about the crime to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) 244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
