Waterview apartments come one step closer

It is official; the approval of the Waterview Land Development apartments proposed for the former Patty McGee’s site at 6 Waterview Road in Island Park has been registered with the Town of Hempstead. Property owner John Vitale said the Town gave him the green light after he reached an agreement with the Yacht Club condominium board of directors, for construction of an 86-apartment project that would be located across the street from the Yacht Club complex.

“We have come up with an alternative plan,” he said, “so we may be going in to revise it, making one building small than the other, or we might stay with the plan the way it is.” He called the next steps “technical stuff” before they put the project out to bid. “Then we start with the engineers and the architects,” Vitale said, “that should be a six to eight month process.”

The project would include a community area and boat slips for the apartment complex residents, an outdoor pool, exercise room, and a landscaped garden area. The complex would also provide residents with van service to the beach.

Vitale said they are moving along with renovations to his other Barnum Island properties. “We received an SBA loan at Jordan Lobster Farm at one Pettit Place in Island Park. “We have been using the loan proceeds to repair and renovate the facility,” he said, “We built bathrooms and dining areas out of the flood plain, and we are repairing our docks that were destroyed [in Hurricane Sandy].”
