Weisenberg, a former lifeguard who remains active in the community, said that he would remain committed to a number of initiatives during the remainder of his term, such as continuing to draw attention to Reynolds Channel — he secured $900,000 in funding so that researchers at Stony Brook University can determine the level of pollutants there, research that is expected to help secure federal funding to help deal with the problem — and addressing the need for repairs on Nassau Expressway.

Though he obviously doesn’t know who will replace him, Weisenberg said, “I’m looking forward to the Democratic party choosing the best person.”
