While Rockville Centre’s Bonefish Grill is a link in a chain, there exists a unique individuality. According to managing partner, Art Sorenson, headquarters encourages an entrepreneurial attitude. Hence, it is more of a warm local presence than a cool carbon copy. Servers are well-trained and cordial. Presentations are polished. The striking décor is spacious and elegant yet cozy and comfy, with earthy tones accented by copper.

Warm, crusty bread with pesto-infused olive oil arrived first. We enjoyed live music playing from the bar. Thumbs up to their much-lauded signature appetizer, Bang Bang Shrimp — a heaping portion of crisp shrimp tossed in zesty cream sauce. Maryland Crab Cakes were lush with lump crabmeat, with spicy remoulade to dip or drizzle. Mussels Josephine shared a bowl with luscious garlicky lemon wine sauce perked with tomatoes, red onions and basil. (Save your bread to sop up the last of it.) We were wowed by Oysters Rockefeller — warm with creamed spinach and bacon, shells perched on a platter lined with rock salt (or ice if you choose raw). Bonefish House Salad, a chilled mix of greens, hearts of palm, tomatoes and Kalamata olives, was gently dressed in citrus herb vinaigrette.

While fresh seafood and fish dominate the menu, there are plenty of alternatives - burgers, chicken, steaks and chops. As in fine steakhouses, Bonefish Grill serves only fresh (never frozen) beef. Specials change once every six to eight weeks, and are seasonal.

Lobster Stuffed Shrimp (six jumbo) were amazing, morsels of fresh lobster specked with red peppers, dressed in lemon butter, served over creamed spinach. Another winner, Misoyaki Chilean Sea Bass, grilled over oak, was drizzled with its marinade and pickle-ginger relish, over sautéed spinach with mushrooms and jasmine rice. Filet Mignon was an eight-ounce ultra-tender cut topped with Marsala gravy, served with sweet potato mash … delicious.
