What we’ll remember about this year

Posted

The past 12 months have been filled with a dizzying variety of triumph and tragedy, seriousness and silliness, the oh-so-predictable and the never-in-a-million-years. In other words, it’s been a typical year. We asked members of the Richner Communications staff what made 2015 memorable for them.

“In April I had meniscus surgery. Six months later, I ran a half marathon."
Melissa Schuck, production assistant

“After years of heartache, the Mets made it to the World Series.”
Andrew Hackmack, editor, Wantagh-Seaford Herald

“My older son got engaged (I feel so old!), and I had the daunting experience of moving into a new home after 30-plus years in the former one.”
Jeffrey Negrin, creative director

“I was nominated for Long Island’s Best Dog Trainer. Hard work pays off.”
Jackie Comitino, pre-press, commercial printing

“My friend and colleague Karen Resnick lost her battle with cancer. In our fast-paced business, she never missed a day, going from chemotherapy straight to the office, always fighting and trying to go on with her life. Karen used to say, ‘Life isn’t always the way it’s supposed to be. It’s how you deal with it that matters.’ There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t think of her. We shared so much: our children’s weddings, the birth of our grandchildren and many other milestones. I’m so lucky our paths crossed and we had the friendship that we did. She’s my hero and always will be.”
Rhonda Glickman, vice president of sales

“It was a big year for me. I moved back to Long Island after graduating from college in the spring, and was offered a job as a reporter at the Herald only three months later. Talk about real life hitting you in the face!”
Rebecca Anderson, Wantagh-Seaford Herald

“My 31-year-old daughter, Stephanie, beat cancer, graduated as a court report and finished with a 97.9 average — and was given a special award by the school for fortitude and perseverance.”
Roseann Peritore, advertising sales, Valley Stream and Franklin Square/Elmont Heralds

“The highlight for me was working on the Rockville Centre Herald’s 25th anniversary issue. It was a lot of work, but it was amazing to go through the papers, and the village’s history, and see just how much things have changed over the past 25 years.”
Alex Costello, editor, Rockville Centre Herald

“The marriage of my son, Derek Stanya, to Mangiarcina in Marina Del Rey, Calif., in May.”
Nannette Stanya, classified advertising, Nassau Herald

“My engagement to my fiancé, Kiran Bryan, on Oct 25.”
Charisma Rogers, advertising sales, Elmont/Franklin Square Herald
