Lobsters and steak at Masone Beach

Earlier this month, the Island Park Kiwanis Club hosted its annual lobster and steak dinner at Masone Beach. 83 people attended the dinner, which serves as a fundraiser for the club, Island Park Kiwanis secretary, Karen Davis said.

All told, more than $1,700 was raised for children’s organizations both locally and abroad. In the past, the funds have gone towards sending local children from low-income families to Camp Kiwanis, pediatric trauma units donated to the fire department and The Eliminate Project, which provides tetanus shots for pregnant mothers in countries abroad, according to Davis.

The club has yet to decide on a destination for the funds. “We’ll figure out where [the money] is going,” Davis said. “It will certainly be something dealing with children.”

Musician Tom Peluso was on hand to sing the oldies, and the partygoers had a good time, Davis said. “For the first time in many years there was actually a high tide, a breeze and perfect weather,” she recounted. “It was a nice turn out.”
