Peter A.B. Principe, a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, died on Aug. 6. He was 69.

Raised in Carle Place, Principe became a longtime resident of Oceanside, where he served as a past president of the hamlet’s Chamber of Commerce and was an active member in the community. At times a teacher, coach and businessman, many knew him by his kind smile and comforting presence. He never turned down a request for help from a friend, and did not hesitate to offer assistance to a stranger.

Principe was preceded in death by his father, Joseph, and mother, Ruth, as well as his brother, Joseph and sister, Claudia. He is survived by Heather, his wife of 42 years; his children, Joseph and Jennifer; his daughter-in-law, Stephany Abrams, and son-in-law, Jesse Wilkes; his grandchildren, Jack, Jake and Ava Jean; his sisters, Laurel Tria and Andrea Principe; his loving brothers-in-law, Brian Marshall and Stephen Gadischkie; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Principe’s wake was held at Towers Funeral Home in Oceanside on Aug. 8. His funeral Mass was held at St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church, also in Oceanside, on Aug. 9.

In lieu of flowers, Principe’s family requested that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
