Reminiscent of a sidewalk café in Italy, La Strada is a labor of love in every way. Created three years ago by Eva and Guy Saraniero, the restaurant has become a popular go-to spot in Merrick, evident by the many customers who are greeted by name.

Ambience is warm and charming, marked by wrought iron, exposed brick, colorful murals, street-like lanterns, and luscious aromas from a wood-burning oven.

Servers are friendly and attentive. Since dinner can range from splitting a pizza, to a multi-course gastronomical affair, there is something for every penchant and budget.

Chef Guy credits his cooking finesse to “grandma.” While he is known for his incredible pizzas, every dish he and his staff put out is perfection, and artfully presented.

The Saraniero’s take a hands-on approach with La Strada, which is open seven days a week. They are always present, showing endless commitment to high quality cuisine and customer satisfaction.

Warm crusty bread and buttery garlic knots arrived first. We were immediately wowed by Burrata mozzarella salad. Burrata, a ball of fresh cheese that is silky and solid on the outside, and creamy and soft within, was served quartered, drizzled with Balsamic glaze, on a bed of baby greens, vine-ripened tomatoes and imported olives.

Wood-fired Margherita pizza was sensational, topped with plenty of melted mozzarella, plum tomato sauce and fresh basil. Rigatoni La Strada was lush with lobster meat, shrimp, sun dried and spinach, brought together with garlic and olive oil.

Chicken alla Eva, a boneless breast stuffed with prosciutto, asparagus, roasted peppers, and mozzarella, was finished with a delicate pink cream sauce, and broccoli and potato croquette on the side.
