Long Beach police said surfers in the West End reported seeing what they believed to be a human foot bobbing in the waters off the beach at Delaware Avenue Monday night, which led to an investigation by Long Beach police.

Police arrived at the scene to investigate, and helicopters were used in a search of the area. Deputy Inspector Bruce Meyer confirmed that there was a report of a foot or limb seen by a few surfers.

“A couple of surfers saw something,” he said. “We got a call around 7 p.m. Police officers went out, aviation went out, we had units respond.”

Meyer said that despite a “thorough” search, no body part was found. “Units were out there for a substantial amount of time and they didn’t find anything,” he said.

Meyer added, however, that police would continue to monitor the waters. “There are no reports of anyone missing in the immediate area,” he said. “We’re continuing to monitor the shore line to see if something comes up.”
