An alternative to the after-prom bacchanal

Fran Licausi, the Wellness Council’s current executive director; Emilio Manzo, its president; and Calhoun PTA leader Phyllis Guttilla have kept the partying going. This year the council teamed up with the Rock Underground, a Bellmore music school, to hold a battle of the bands at the Brookside School in North Merrick that raised more than $5,000 for this year’s post-prom party, which will be held at Zachary’s in East Meadow. Local businesses and donors will provide the rest.

If your school district is fortunate enough to have a post-prom party, please consider donating funds, goods or services to it. If not, think about why there isn’t one. A substance-free post-prom party sends a powerful message to teens: The adults in your life care deeply about your well-being. You matter.
