Though temperatures have increased slightly from last week, snow and sleet continue to plague Long Beach and other South Shore communities.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for Wednesday beginning at 7 p.m. until Thursday, March 5, at 7 p.m. Sleet is expected to begin between midnight and 2 a.m. and then change over to snow. Long Beach is predicted to receive between four and eight inches, as snow continues to fall throughout the day Thursday.

Wind chill values may drop to as low as 10 degrees on Thursday.

This comes on the heels of a wintery mix of sleet, snow and rain Tuesday afternoon and evening. Many residents are still struggling to dig out from last Sunday’s snowfall as well.

The city posted a message on its Facebook page Wednesday asking residents to move any vehicles parked along Shore Road so that Department of Public Works crews could clear the slush from the street and remove debris from the storm drains in preparation for the expected significant snowfall. Flooding has been an issue this winter, which has seen at least one weather event almost every week.

DPW crews have been deployed throughout the week plowing local streets, clearing storm drains to alleviate flooding, and laying down salt and sand. The city urged residents to use caution while driving.

The snow is expected to taper off Thursday night, with clouds clearing up and a low of around 12 degrees. The weather should improve by the weekend, with temperatures in the 40s expected for Sunday.
