Clearly, better government regulation is needed. At the same time, Hurricane Sandy should demonstrate to homeowners, in no uncertain terms, that they need to build personal emergency funds if they can. With the ever-present threat of global warming, scientists say, the seas are becoming increasingly unpredictable. Do not believe for a second that simply because we were hit by the storm of the century this year, the threat has passed. It hasn’t. The next storm of the century may come in 2013. We must begin to think differently. We must prepare.
