LIRR president, Skelos to take train to Long Beach

Posted

Long Island Railroad President Helena Williams and New York State Senator Dean Skelos will be riding one of the first Long Beach-bound trains Wednesday morning since Hurricane Sandy devastated the area.

At this time, the Long Island Railroad is operating limited diesel service between Lynbrook and Long Beach since Hurricane Sandy knocked our third-rail power along the entire branch, Metropolitan Transit Authority officials said.

Williams and Skelos will be leaving the Lynbrook station at 11:30 a.m. on a train scheduled to arrive in Long Beach at 11:48 a.m. Upon arrival, the pair will announce information regarding the extent of the severe flood damage the hurricane caused to the railroad's electric substations that provide power to the third-rail, and the progress of the work to restore the electric service on the Long Beach branch.
