Long Beach DPW crews clear more snow, schools closed

Long Beach schools are closed today and all activities and transportation cancelled, the district said on Friday.

The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory that's in effect until noon, and the storm was expected to create dangerous conditions during the morning commute.

Long Beach could see a total of four to six inches of snow, and the city said its public works crews are out clearing roads, but cautioned drivers to allow extra time for their morning commute due to wet and heavy snow.

Repair work is also taking place in the East End at Park Avenue and Pacific Boulevard, which may cause additonal traffic delays following a sewer main collapse there yesterday, and emergency repair crews are still on the scene.

The city's Youth and Family services early morning/late care and Sandbox programs are closed. Magnolia Daycare is open.

All Magnolia Center Senior programs and activities are canceled for today because of the weather.
