Not strictly limited to visual art, Art in the Plaza will also feature musicians provided by Artists in Partnership. The first hour of each show will begin with an open jazz session to give the opportunity for new and veteran entertainers to showcase their talent. Among the performers is Ben Metzger, a member of Jamkestra, an audio/visual band composed of students, staff and friends of the Harriet Eisman Community School, where he is a director. “As a conscious music artist and educator, my songs express messages of peace and positivity,” he said.

At last Sunday’s show, Metzger plugged in his acoustic and electric guitars and jammed out a mix of reggae, blues and acoustic originals. John Peri, member of West End Arts, will perform several jazz tunes on his tenor saxophone. “Anything that promotes the arts is great for Long Beach and brings the community together,” Peri said.

Coordinator Scott Evers, who brought together the local art organizations, believes only positive things will come out of the event. “There will be a realization of the talent we have in such a small area,” Evers said. “ It is going to enrich the community.”

All artists and musicians will be showing every Sunday at the Art in the Plaza until November 14. For more information, visit Artists in Partnership website at aip-arts.org.
